Meet Your Halifax Chiropractors

Chiropractors Halifax Dr. Doug Penrose and Dr. Karen Smith

Dr. Douglas J. Penrose, DC

Dr. Doug experienced the initial benefit of chiropractic care through his mother, who suffered with back pain for years.

After visiting multiple doctors and trying a number of “solutions,” her search took a turn to chiropractic.

Dr. Doug’s mother finally saw an improvement in her back pain, with it ultimately resolving—something no other doctor had been able to accomplish for her.

From that day forward, Dr. Doug knew that his true calling was to become a chiropractor, and ultimately decided to attend Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) for his studies.

With a love of working with his hands and a kind, helpful demeanor, Dr. Doug makes patients of all ages feel at ease as he promotes healing and spinal health. Read more »

Dr. Karen A. Smith, DC

After many years of playing competitive sports as a child and teenager, Dr. Karen began suffering from back pain around age 15.

At that time, she explored several healthcare options without success.

Due to her back pain, she was told that if she played university volleyball she would not be able to walk by the time she turned 30.

After hearing this, she decided to give Chiropractic care a try, and her results were amazing, allowing her to play varsity Volleyball for Dalhousie.

An even more impressive feat? She has surpassed 30 and had 2 children —with no back pain! Read more »

Dr. Sasha Zevenhuizen

Growing up in Halifax, Sasha was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed running, competitive canoe/kayak and swimming. Although she loved competition, it was more about health and looking at ways to “be” and to “stay” healthy. Regular chiropractic care played an important role in her health maintenance and treatment and prevention of injuries, so she quickly began to realize the amazing results it could have on people’s lives.

In 2006, she graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. During her time at Dalhousie, she was an athletic trainer with the Dalhousie varsity swim team which kindled her interests in the fields of sport injury rehabilitation and myofascial work. After travelling abroad for a year, her mind was set. Her passion for helping others, along with her sports interests and love of anatomy and biomechanics drove her to pursue her Doctor of Chiropractic degree. Read more »
